Hey! Have you read the book "Jane Eyre" written by Charlotte Bronte? If you are a special fond of love stories like I am, you would enjoy reading this book.
I've recently gotten myself into those pages; my heart was being blown in different directions by the context, a romance filled with ups and downs between two characters -Jane Eyre & Mr Rochester. As I was reading, I could not help it but to put my insights and emotions into paper. So with tears and teared heart, I moved my pen.
This write up journals my personal feelings specifically regarding Chapter 27 of the book, this part of the story talks about a sudden, shocking, yet saddening incident occurred during the wedding of Jane & Mr Rochester. Jane then refused to stay and ran away from Mr Rochester, even though Mr Rochester questioned her love towards him several times and also poured out his love and explanation to her more than once, as sincere as it could ever be. The leaving of Jane Eyre led me to question, 'Is love as fragile?', 'Did they not love each other enough for the love to be kept?'
From every 'I love you', from the moment Jane turned back and kissed Mr Rochester's cheek before exiting, from every thought upon the possibilities of turning back to Thornfield during the journey of leaving, I believe Jane really and truly did fell in love with Mr Rochester. But at that very moment, the fact that she knew she could not marry Mr Rochester, or in other words 'she could never be his', as well as the shock and mess from the wedding incident caused her to grieve, The sorrows darkened the joy of falling in love that she once had, hence destroyed her courage to make the decision to stay in this love and continue to pour out her love into this relationship. Therefore, Jane Eyre left.
While on the other hand, Mr Rochester was not willing to let Jane go, because he was too afraid to release this love that is much pleasing to his heart, that he finally found after all these years. Did Mr Rochester really love Jane? Well...
i. yes, he fell deeply in love with Jane ii. he was overwhelmed with sorrows and disappointments throughout the previous years, and finally found someone who somewhat met the qualifications of a partner according to his vision. Therefore, he struggled to let her go. (Even towards the end of Chapter 27, Jane Eyre felt strongly in her heart that the pearl necklace given by Mr Rochester does not belong to her , it belonged to his "visionary bride".)
However innocent or however true I may be, I still choose to believe there must be love.
As cruel as it could be interpreted, Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester were both selfish. He wants her to stay no matter to what extent, even as far as to break the law or to despite everything that is related around. As for Jane, even if she chose to stay, she would need no answer to anyone and may stay in love with Mr Rochester happily ever after. Although so, Jane mentioned in the chapter that even no one is considering, she considers for herself, therefore she chose herself over love and left Mr Rochester.
In this fallen world, we are all seeking for love in whatever ways possible no matter we realize it or not. Along the journey, we may be crushed, wounded, broken... ... Yet in the very corner of our hearts, we long to be love and love again.
Holding onto my belief in God, there's no perfect love from human being nor from anything in the world. True love comes from our creator, and it is from Him and Him alone. God is the direct and exact definition of love. As the bible says 'God is love'. He is a love that is full, satisfying, real, good, and perfect. God's love never fails. -1 Corinthians 13:8
There are a lot more to discover from this book 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Bronte. I will leave the rest of the parts, the ending especially, for those who have not read the book to discover. To all the romance enthusiasts, hope you have a great time reading this book. Thoughts and emotions travel and change as I moved from page to page, chapter to chapter. It is an unknown when I will be re-reading this book, also wonder how different would my thoughts be by then.
